busy weekend!
I ended up not going to AOD after all; instead I wanted to spend time with my friends from high school whom I hadn't seen in many years.
Saturday was Cindra and Fox's wedding and everything was very beautiful. The only other wedding I had ever been to was for some distant relative when I was very young, so I didn't really know what to expect from one where I actually knew the people there. But it was a lot of fun hanging out and talking with people I hadn't seen in ages :)
I got there waaay too early because I had never been to the place where it was being held (the Opera House in Los Gatos), and I had no idea how long it would take me to find it after I inevitably got lost. Even with getting lost, I still overestimated the time it would take to get there by a longshot, so I ended up being something like 45 minutes early and the first guest there. At least Eric (the best man) was already there so I didn't have to stand there wondering what to do for an hour. I suppose the girls were still busy primping and stuff because I didn't see them, except for Anna very briefly when I first came in. Anyway the guys in the wedding party didn't have anything left to do (apparently), so I hung out with them and got introduced to Fox's parents and the other Eric, who goes by Kiv (?), an online gaming friend of Eric and Fox's from Chicago. Fox's sisters and Cindra's parents and brother were also about.
The ceremony itself was very nice and also much shorter than I had expected. I think it was probably just because I was little at the time and had the attention span of a goldfish, but I remember the last wedding I went to seemed to drag on forever and ever. This wasn't like that at all; it didn't seem like the entire thing could have been longer than 15 minutes. Short and sweet, just the way it ought to be! After the ceremony everything got rearranged while the guests stood around chatting; tables and chairs were set out around the dance floor and then lunch was served. The choice was between beef and chicken, but when I had picked chicken I didn't expect to get a WHOLE chicken. There was no way I could eat an entire bird, but at least the parts I did eat were very good. Then there was dancing and stuff, but I didn't pay much attention to that. I was at a table talking with Gina, Sheng, Shellie, and sometimes Justine and Elizabeth and Jennifer, and after a while we went over to visit with Cindra, Erin, Anna, and Jennie. At some point (after the bouquet toss?) some of us went out to decorate Cindra's car, which turned out pretty cool looking. I wonder how long any of the balloons held on, though. Cindra and Fox eventually came out, had bird-friendly heart-shaped chocolate-scented rice (can you even call it rice at that point?) thrown at them, and took off in their newly decorated car for a honeymoon in Tahoe!
Many of the rest of us decided to go home, change out of our uncomforable clothes and nap and do chores and whatnot, then reconvene to go out to dinner at a Chinese restaurant. Some people had to go home, so the dinner group was me, Shellie, Gina, Anna, Eric, Jennie, and Kiv. The food was very good, especially these sweet shrimp things that Kiv had ordered. After dinner we went back to Shellie's place and watched Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi (AKA Spirited Away). The subtitles were too difficult for some people to read, so we watched the dubbed version. I was freaked out by this at first (ME watch a DUB??), but for a dub it was surprisingly well done and completely tolerable, so the movie was still fun to watch.
On Sunday our group went out to lunch at the Cheesecake Factory - me, Jennie, Sheng, Erin, Eric, Jennifer, and Leslie who came down from Grass Valley to join us. I had a wonderful portabella mushroom sandwich, but then I lost my mind and ordered a slice of peanut butter cup cheesecake. I'm never eating peanut butter anything again! It was insanely rich and after a while I felt sick just looking at it. Well I've learned my lesson; next time I'll try one of the much lighter types of cheesecake (because you can't go to the Cheesecake Factory and NOT get cheesecake...).
After lunch we went to Jennie's house and played a game of Turbo Cranium; I like it better than regular Cranium, but the game seems to end too quickly. We didn't feel like playing another game; instead we stood outside trying to decide what to do for something like an hour. Finally we decided on a brief shopping trip to get an interesting surprise to leave for Cindra and Fox, then go rent some movies to watch on my dad's giant hi-def tv. I ran home while the others browsed the video store because my mom had a coupon for a free rental, so I went and got it from her. We got two movies, Cellular and 13 Going on 30. Both of them were pretty entertaining, if silly. The first one is a moderate action film, and the second one is like Big but with a girl. In between movies we walked around the block to get food from Togo's, and everyone left somewhere between 10 and 11pm.
Monday almost everyone was busy with other stuff, so just me, Eric, and Leslie were free. We ended up taking a trip to Davis because it's on Leslie's way home, and I was going to go there anyway to try and get some horse pictures for my last photography project. So we drove up and first went to the Horse Barn to look around there and take pictures for a while; there are only two foals so far, one of which was born earlier that day (just after midnight). They were cute anyway, but I'm not sure I got any good pictures of them. At about 4:30 or 5 we went to get dinner at Carl's Jr. and wound up sitting there talking for something like 2-3 hours ^^; The employees were probably wondering if we were ever going to leave. Leslie finally decided she needed to get going since she still had a long drive back to Grass Valley, so we said goodbye and then Eric and I drove back to San Jose. I had a captive audience so I talked about anime for nearly the entire 1 1/2 hour drive home, hehe. Hopefully he didn't mind too much since he does actually watch some of them.
When we got back to San Jose we went to visit Shellie for maybe an hour until she wanted to go to bed about 10pm, then I took Eric to his family friend, Geri, since he was going to spend the night at her house and have her take him to the airport in the morning. I've met Geri once or twice before, she's a very nice lady with two adorable miniature poodles. Apparently she visited my apartment when I lived in Davis, but I don't remember that. Anyway she brought out a whole box of old pictures of Eric and his relatives from when he was a kid living in Hawaii, and we looked through them all. At midnight she decided to go to bed, but for some reason thought we'd like to stay up and watch tv. I don't necessarily know that either of us still wanted to stay up, but since she fought with the tv trying to get it to turn on and show a picture with sound for at least five minutes, we thought we at least had to get it to turn on so we could watch it if we wanted to. Eric finally got it to turn on, and I put on the movie Wrong Turn (because it was on and I had been talking about it earlier at Carl's Jr., though I don't remember why). I stayed up and watched it but Eric fell asleep, and when it ended I finally said goodbye to him and left for home about 1:30am.
That was a long weekend! A cookie for anyone who actually read this far *lol*
