Bo's eyes

I'm posting this as a photographic record of just how far from normal the corpora nigra in Bo's eyes are. I had seen these things in horses' eyes before, of course, but I never really noticed or thought about how big his were until the vet pointed it out and I started really taking a look at those of other horses. Here I want to show you a comparison with Glory, one of the Paints I looked at last weekend; she also has a blue eye. After seeing these it definitely makes sense that much of his vision is being blocked out and he probably just kind of sees fuzzy stuff.

First here's Glory, with normal eyes

In this one I've circled the small corpora nigrum she has in this eye

Now let's look at Bo's eyes. These are in daylight without his pupils dilated.

I don't know if you can see the slight variation in contrast, but basically his corpora nigra cover nearly the entire pupils. Here I've circled them:

Here are some more angles of his right eye, this time taken in the dark with his pupils dilated.

And now with the corpora nigrum circled:

Now compare these to Glory's eyes again. Is it any wonder the poor guy has trouble knowing what's coming at him? =(

So that's your small lesson in horse eyes for today. The more you know! *STAR RAINBOW*
