velessa: (Labyrinth - Jareth - the horror)
Went to see Silent Hill tonight with Josh, Jennie, and Jani. I didn't know anything about it other than it was based on some scary video game, but since I like horror movies I was interested in seeing it.

It was very confusing for a long time. Eventually the story was explained for the most part, but the ending just made you go "huh?" and left a lot unanswered. I rather liked it, though. It was very...well I guess you can't really call a horror movie "pretty," but it was pretty darn cool and stylish looking. And one of the main bad guys was played by that super-scary-looking lady who plays the Borg Queen in Star Trek. She freaks me out. That ugly dude from Lord of the Rings was in it, too. Other than that I didn't really find much of anything about the movie itself scary; I might call it somewhat creepy, rather. There's some bloodiness/gore towards the end of the movie, but nothing really horrible. The Final Destination movies have more blood and guts than this did. Oh, and the Thriller-esque nurse zombies in the hospital were just plain funny.

Some of the dialogue was just ridiculous, though, as in "so stupid it's funny." But hey, that's one of the things I like about horror flicks, hilarious stupidity! For instance, the entire town is sort of the result of an underground coal mine fire that's been burning for 30 years...and at one point one of the characters (who's been wandering around in the town for quite a while mind you) goes "Gee, looks like this place was in a fire!" Um yeah, no shit, Sherlock. That one had most of the audience snickering. Anyway I still think it's a pretty enjoyable movie for horror film fans.
