ARGH. I haven't had a cold this bad since January, I think. My head is all stuffed up and hurts, I can't hear or taste anything well, my nose is running like a faucet, my throat hurts, I think I'm even running a bit of a fever, and no medicine I take seems to do anything. I've already missed two days at my regular job, had to stay home from my weekend job, and now I'm going to miss another day of work tomorrow. I can't get any sleep and I'm keeping Josh up at night with all my nose blowing and hacking. I'm going to see the doctor tomorrow, but I don't know if there's anything they can really do for a nasty head cold. Bah.

There's not much you can do against headcolds, because it's viral and antibiotics will only help when you get a bacterial infection on top of it (and then only against those bugs). Drinking a lot of herbal tea and water helps to loosen the mucus (also helps to keep the mucous membranes moist and helps preventing colds in the first place), in addition a mucosolvent can help relieve the breathing trouble (requires a lot of fluid intake, too, though).

If the cough is too persistent and dry, the doc can give you something, i.e. meds with codeine, to stop the coughing at nights, but again this is not recommended when you've got a productive cough.

Fever as such is a way of the body to get rid of the infection, and usually resting and keeping yourself hydrated is enough, but if it's too high or lasts over several days, your doc might give you something for that.

I hope you feel better soon. What does it say? A cold comes three days, stays three days and goes three days, so I hope you'll be up and feeling better in no time! As last tip, my younger sister swears that those nasal lavage thingies (that you use with salt water) help excellently, but I haven't brought myself to try them out yet. Uh, if you're feeling experimental, you could try it? XD;

Heh, thanks. Yeah, I know there's not much you can do but treat the symptoms, but I'd really like to be able to get a full night's sleep! =p The doctor gave me a couple of nasal sprays to help with the congestion and some kind of codeine cough syrup stuff to help me go to sleep at night. Eh, we'll see how it goes. I just hope I don't have a sinus infection.
