Not my week

Came off of Bo tonight. We were trotting in the arena when he spooked at something (I think another horse entering the arena from the dark) and he took off bucking and managed to unseat me after a couple of them. Luckily I landed on my fat ass so I'm not hurt. =P I'll be sore, though, and my hair is full of sand (around the edges, I had a helmet on of course).

Bo tore out of the arena and I don't know where all he ran off to in the dark, but I found him hiding in an open stall, probably because he wasn't able to get back into his because I had put the barrier up. Guess he had a lot of energy to work off! I can't remember when I last got him out, so that's probably why.

The dumbest part of this is before I went to mount up, I had this feeling like something bad was going to happen. Should have listened to my gut! The next time I haven't gotten him out in a while, I'll lunge him first!

I'm glad you weren't hurt. I wonder if creating some sort of physical signal (like setting your hand on his shoulder or moving a certain way or something) to indicate if you see/hear something he doesn't would help (once you've bonded more) since you think he might be deaf. I don't know if it would help or not, I was just thinking that it might keep him from spooking if you could alert him in some way.

I know that feeling so well! I used to talk to my trainer back in the day about it, because I would tack up, and just get such a heavy feeling of "this will not be good." I had huge confidence issues back then, and Claudia's whole message was "respect that feeling, but don't let it control you, 'cos if you think OHSHIT, then OHSHIT is gonna happen." I had to comment on that part, 'cos I've never known anyone else who gets that feeling!!

On the plus side, I'm glad you're ok, and I'm glad that Bo ran to the barn, instead of leading you on a goose chase!

Ouch! Getting bucked off sucks, and nothing bucks quite like a QH/Paint (I speak from experience). Glad you're both okay. [hugs]
