velessa: (Religion - Christianity)

Every person on the planet should watch this. I agree with every last word. I'm not an atheist, but I am opposed to organized religion. Many organized religions, especially the ones based on the christian god, breed hate and evil and intolerance in the guise of "faith," and it makes me sick!

I do agree with a lot of the things he believes in (actually all the things he listed at the beginning, lol :D) but I don't know if religion itself is always the problem, people are. Lol.

I grew up in a church, over time learned other things, the world and experiences formed my beliefs... I never felt I was intimidated and fear-struck through my church, but boy was I scared as hell when I visited a mega-church once. T_T seriously a cult feel and I felt sick to my stomach. I know that in my small community (or at least my family, which is my core) I was only taught to be open and tolerant > >;; so yeah it totally frustrates me when I see religious people shoving 'faith' down other peoples' throats.

One of the things I find ironic is that so many Christians take the bible verbatim and I think they really miss some important things. Jesus was a super liberal, open-minded minority at the time of his existence concerned about real people and real love and real peace, helping other minorities get along with the people who shunned them and challenging the 'church' which was less about a faith in any real purpose than following rules to help the state. Lol irony.

Man, I'd probably still call myself a Christian deep down inside, but how much I hate to see all those blind sheep running off a cliff... claiming to know what they really don't know.

I had an argument once with a Christian girl at school and she saw my name and was like... oh your name is in the bible :DDD (I know...) Are you Christian???? (Well, yeah, though I'm always hesitant to label myself that because of teh crazies). A couple days later about Prop 8 she asked if I was going to vote 'yes'. WTF is that T_T. Because I'm somehow obligated to do so??? The stuff I was taught through my family, through my friends, and even through my church never told me to vote for it, like hell I ever would anyway. She kept arguing about the bible and it was even less about gay rights and more about what she felt was THE WORD from someone who obviously picks and chooses from the bible anyway. I was so upset I ended up crying. Why couldn't she use her damn brain? We don't have to be indoctrinated like that to have faith in something. We don't have to be religiously following anything like that which will hurt other people and keep others from achieving something like marriage T_T

uh....

/tl;dr

Sorry about that :D waiting someday for Prop 8 to be overturned. SOMEDAY SOON?

But long story short, it frustrates me even more having a Christian based background and seeing people act stupidly because of their religion... I can respect rites and cultures and stuff, but not EVER when it's deliberately harming other people in anyway...

Completely agreed. It makes me want to shake people and scream "think for yourself, dammit!" I thought the whole point of Christianity was to love thy neighbor. *headdesk*

He starts well, and he makes some good points, but it would work better if he was less insulting and provided more examples supporting his opinion.

FWIW, I'm agnostic, and I have a big problem with organized religion.

mmm Atheism.
