work was slow today. I guess because it's Easter most people have something else planned. that's fine with me, less work for both us and the horses! I did have fun today, though. the closing supervisor provides never ending amusement because she's so silly (she's 15). today she fell in the trough, got her keys stuck in a tree because she was throwing them in the air, and took ten minutes to figure out a knock-knock joke. we were also trying to describe what Easter is (none of us are religious, obviously - we work on sunday) and she exclaimed "That's the day he got nailed!" and caused all of us to bust up laughing and fall over. never a dull moment with her around :)
I also took out a ride today (not part of my duties as the opening supervisor) because we have a new guide who had to be trained. that meant that both guides were taking out one ride. when both guides are gone and another ride has to go out, the closing supervisor is technically the one who is supposed to take them. well she had just come back from a ride and begged and pleaded with me to take the next one, a group of five. I didn't want to do it, but I finally agreed when she offered to buy me a jamba juice (we order a bunch of drinks from there every sunday). neither of us wanted to take it because there were two little girls on the ride, but actually it turned out to be a really nice ride because all but one of the people were riders (it was the guy's first time on a horse), and I didn't have to help them out with anything or keep a close eye on them. plus I had a nice conversation with the girl behind me who was about my age and used to own a horse. so it didn't turn out anywhere near as annoying as I had expected. the only slight problem was Teddy's saddle was too far back, but I fixed that at the beginning of the ride and we had a pleasant time for the rest of the hour. oh and my horse spooked a little at this big hiking pack some hikers had on the side of the trail; he's a young ex-racehorse and he isn't as trail savvy as the older horses yet. but all in all, it was a good ride. it's so nice to have a slow, fun day once in a while :)
