Looks like the storm is finally here...first thunder, now hail.

So I ran out to Fry's a little while ago and met up with my dad there on his lunch hour. I got an external hard drive to back up all my stuff on (which I hope I'll be able to get to!), and a new power supply dad'll install when he gets home from work. I really hope it's just the power supply; I've burned out at least two or three of them before because I pretty much have my computer on all the time, and this seems like the same thing. My computer just turned itself off and I smelled something weird, that's usually the power supply burning out. I did try restarting twice, and at least one of the times the computer began to boot up normally before turning off again, so I think the hard drives are probably okay. If they're not I have a TON of redownloading to do :(

If you're burning out power supplies that fast, maybe there's something up... I don't know, could it be you need one with higher wattage? It should say on the box and the power supply itself how much you have, but how much you need is not so easy to figure out. You could try getting a new one at 50 or 100 higher than your last one, usually that means a price jump of $10-$20 but if it means you might not destroy it as fast, well, just a thought. ^^

The one I had was 420W, the new one is 500. Thanks for the offer, I'll have to see what I'm left with :p I think it's not so much the anime that I'd lose (most of what was left on the drives should be relatively easy to replace) as much as the zillions of unsorted mp3s/dramas and manga scanlations I hadn't burned yet.
