I'm soooo tiiiired...these phrase structure rules have really been kicking my ass. I just spent another five hours or so working on them. The good news is the hardest part is finished. Now we just have to condense all the rules we came up with. "Just" I say, ha. That's another stressful piece of work. Oh and I haven't even done the reading for this class yet; gotta find time to do that before Monday. I really don't feel like I have the energy for work tomorrow, especially since I'm still getting over my cold. Gotta do it though. At least it'll be a nice change of pace from schoolwork.

Oh today on my way to my project partner's house I came across some whack job on the road. I don't know if the driver was asleep or passed out or what, but this truck was going about 10 mph down the street just rolling on his merry way. Red light? Pssh, he just moseyed on through. Luckily he was going so slowly that the other cars could easily spot him and wait for him to get the hell out of the intersection. I called 911 when I got to my friend's house to report him, but since I was in an area I didn't know, I couldn't remember the street he was on. I hope they found him before he ran into someone, though.

okay...I just found a half-melted carton of ice cream sitting ON TOP of the refrigerator. what the hell? I can understand forgetting about ice cream and leaving it sitting out, but why the heck was it way up there??

well, I had an interesting morning to say the least. on Fridays I don't have any classes, but I do go to school to tutor a student in English. today I missed my meeting with him. why? because I WAS TRAPPED IN AN ELEVATOR! yeah that made my day right there. I have classes on the fourth floor of the Health Building, and so does my tutee (why they hold English classes in the nursing building is beyond me), so I'm in there three times a week. there are two elevators and the stairs aren't even remotely close to them, which means when you walk in the front of the building it's easiest to just take one of the elevators. both of them have been out of order on and off for the past few weeks, but today they both appeared to be working fine. NOT. I got in one of them with another girl; she had to go to the third floor, I had to go to the fourth. it went to the third floor, let her off fine, and continued on its way. but when we reached the fourth floor, I guess it got stuck. it just sat there, blinking the number "4" on the screen, and the doors wouldn't open no matter what I pushed. suffice to say I was not happy about it. I felt panicked, worried, scared, nervous, angry, all at the same time. I was mainly worried that I'd be stuck in there for a long time and pissed off that this stupid contraption was making me miss my tutoring appointment, which is totally unfair to the guy I tutor. plus I was a bit scared as visions of the movie "Speed" kept flashing through my head and hoping that I wouldn't have to go out through the opening in the roof of the car.

anyway, I got out just fine and didn't have to spend my whole day in there. I hit the emergency phone button and a guy gave me different instructions for trying to make the doors open. when that didn't work, he sent a technician over to get me out. I actually had to pry the doors open with my fingers from the inside before he could pull them open the rest of the way from the outside. all together I was only stuck in there about 20 minutes, but it was enough to freak me out; from now on I'm using the stairs in that building!

in other news, I got called in to work today to cover for someone. this involved me going on a ride with 16 Girl Scouts ages 9-10, plus doing closing, which is a lot more back breaking work than opening (my normal shift). I don't mind closing once in a while, but I did it for oh about four years and I got really sick of it. which is why I won't do it anymore as a regular shift. I didn't know I was closing when I agreed to do it, I thought they just wanted help with the huge ride. ha, apparently not. nevermind the fact that two other staff members showed up, but they bolted when they realized that I was there to do the hard work for them. hmph. I'm also subbing for someone tomorrow (but just three hours, 7-10am), then I have my usual shift on Sunday, and I might sub for someone else on Monday. busy busy! and I'm going to the Sharks playoff game tomorrow *g* go Sharks!

we have two new horses this week: a sweet Arab mare with a horrible name, and a feisty little Paint cowhorse. the Paint is named Cisco and the Arab is named Wiz! ugh. apparently it's shortened from whatever her long Araby registered name is, but really, I think we can do better than that. that doesn't even sound like a female name. I mean if it was a male we could make it Wizard or something. but for a mare? oh and it keeps making me think of the movie "The Wiz" (which I've never seen and really don't want to see). blech!

last night part of my closet disintegrated. it was about 1:45am and I had *just* drifted off when I hear this crashing sound. I didn't want to get up but I knew the cat had been sleeping in my closet and I thought she must have knocked something over. if that was her then she's a hell of a lot stronger than I ever knew. I got up and turned on the closet light and what do I find? the metal things holding up the big shelf had somehow separated from the wall, so my shelf is now dangling from the wall at a 45 degree angle (one side managed to stay attached). under the shelf was a pole on which nearly all of my clothes had been hanging. except now they were strewn all over the closet floor. so at 2am I spent probably half an hour picking up all my clothes and piling them wherever I could find space, on my bed and couches. I slept on a couch and gave my clothes my bed because I didn't want to carry them so far to other couches. now I don't know what to do with my clothes; they're all just lying around and I have nowhere to put them. argh! stupid shoddy old shelf!

I forgot to mention the awful dream I had last night. awful in the sense that it made trying to rest impossible. I can't remember any details but the gist of it was that it ticked me off! okay so last night I couldn't fall asleep again. probably because I had taken a nap earlier so I didn't get tired until about 1am. well I went to bed at about 1:30 and I just could not get comfortable. I tossed and turned, opened the window and closed it, turned the fan on and off, pulled the blanket up and threw it off...it sucked. I have a clock radio by my bed with bright red numbers, and I looked at it what seemed like every half hour to see how late it was getting and wonder why I couldn't fall asleep. this went on until something like 3:30. or so I thought...when I woke up when my alarm went off, I'd been having a dream about something I can't remember now, but in the dream I was also looking at this clock every once in a while and the time was getting later and later and I was getting more and more agitated...and when I woke up I could not for the life of me tell if I had really been looking at my clock or if I had been dreaming it. have you ever had a dream you couldn't tell apart from reality? that's what this was. I still don't know now. it seems like I couldn't have been up for as long as the time the clock said when I last remembered looking at it; it felt like I'd slept longer than that. but I have no idea. maybe I really *was* awake for that long and only slept for something like 2-3 hours. anyway I just find it really unsettling when I can't tell if something was reality or just in my head. either way I'm sure I didn't get much sleep!
