Saturday afternoon at work an adorable little nest of baby cottontails was discovered in the part of the barn where we keep the food for the horses. So cute! ^_^

ExpandLots of pictures! )

That's the end of our Easter bunny adventure. The joke is that these are the illegitimate children of the rabbit and the squirrel who live in front of the office and are always playing together. ;) I'll have to take pictures of them sometime.

I forgot, we also had a coyote come in reaaaally close to us at the stable on Saturday. It was only maybe ten or fifteen feet away from those horses tied there on the rail. And there were a whole ton of people standing there on the porch waiting for a lesson, I don't know why he wasn't scared off. I suspect it's a grown up version of one of the coyote pups that was living around the pond last year, which would make it really used to people. (Last year there was a mother with two pups living on the same hill with the pond that the rental horses live on). Maybe he's the reason the rabbit put her babies in the barn?

So I'm working on getting my computer up and running the way I want it again. I hate having to reinstall a million things...so far I have AIM, IRC, and BT back to normal. Where does Firefox keep its bookmarks? I know they have to be here somewhere because none of my files were lost, but I don't know where to look for them.

I'm also trying to figure out my new mp3 player. It has 8GB of space, but I didn't realize that that's a surprisingly small amount! At first I was just throwing everything on it, but then I ran out of room and had to delete a lot of stuff and replace it with only the songs I really want. Now I have to organize my playlists and figure out how all the buttons and menus and whatnot work...

Yesterday Josh bought a truck from a friend of a friend. He's still going to ride his motorcycles the majority of the time, but now when the weather gets nasty he won't have to get soaking wet and/or ride in more dangerous conditions. I took a picture if anyone is interested; it's a 1992 Ford F150:

We also watched the movie Crash last night, the one that won Best Picture this year. It was very good and pretty interesting, despite the fact that I'm not particularly fond of movies that leave you with a lot of loose ends. One thing that bugged me was I think Brendan Fraser looks too young to be the District Attorney of Los Angeles. =P

Tonight we're going out with Jennie and Jani to go to dinner and see The Hills Have Eyes, some sort of horror movie. From the commercials it seems to be a lot like Wrong Turn, except set in a desert instead of the woods in West Virginia. But I like horror movies and Ted Levine is in this one (he's awesome), so this ought to be fun.

One more thing. I saw this in a McDonald's today and couldn't resist taking a picture; gotta love Engrish! ;)

It seems to be late 80s/early 90s movie day on tv. On today:

Hook
Dick Tracy
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Back to the Future
Lethal Weapon 3
Flight of the Navigator
Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
The Silence of the Lambs
Jurassic Park
The Terminator
Back to the Future 2

Yeah, I have nothing better to do than see what's on tv...so bored! I'd almost rather be at work, even though it's still freezing outside. Speaking of which it did snow up in the hills mountains over my house:

Pictures of the new horses here. The ones with their names in quotation marks are to be renamed. The names have to start between Q and Z (because that way I don't have to move as many name tags in the tack room!). Any suggestions?

Trail Ride

Take a virtual Garrod Farms trail ride! I took my camera with me on a ride I led earlier today and took a bunch of pictures along the way. The trails go through the Fremont Older Open Space Preserve in the hills of Saratoga, California. Silicon Valley was a bit hazy today, on some days it's much clearer. The vineyards are really pretty right now with all the leaves changing colors, though. Anyway enjoy the pictures! ^_^

So I just got back from having lunch with Neil McCoy. He's a country singer for those of you who don't recognize his name. His latest hit is "Billy's Got His Beer Goggles On" or something like that (I like the song, just not sure of the exact title). He has a few other songs I like as well like.

As usual, Mom won this on the radio from our local country station. It was at Armadillo Willy's, a barbeque place I'd never been to before. I don't like barbeque at all, but they had good cornbread. There were maybe thirty people there plus some KRTY (the radio staton) staff, including the two morning DJs (Gary and Julie; Gary is a crack-up and the only reason I like their morning show). Anyway Neil came in and stood around for a little while answering questions. Then people lined up to have their picture taken with him, so my mom and I both got one of us with him.

Expandpicture )

He commented on how tall we both were, and then was really surprised when Mom told him that I'm the shortest one in the family (at 5'8"). It's true, I'm the runt; I was wearing boots with 2" heels today so I look closer to my mom's height than I actually am.

Next we got food from the buffet and went back to the tables to sit down and eat. They had a bunch of small square tables pushed together in the shape of a huge L, and Mom and I were on one end next to a bunch of empty seats. Of course that's where Neil and the staff all ended up, with Neil right next to me. He's very nice and friendly, but I felt a bit silly sitting there because I only know a grand total of three or four of his songs and really had nothing to say to him. So I just listened while he mostly yacked with the DJs and occasionally answered questions from the other guests who either walked over or yelled out to him from other parts of the table.

When everyone was pretty much done eating he started signing autographs for anyone who wanted one. Not many people had actually brought anything for him to sign, so most people got their name tags (given to us before lunch; stupid girl spelled my name wrong so I flipped it over and wrote it correctly) signed. My name tag was stupid and ugly, so instead I had him sign my horse purse. :)

Expandautograph )

After he finished those I guess it was time for him to go. I said goodbye and that it was nice to meet him, and everyone clapped and he left with his road manager or whoever. He's doing a concert tonight at a club, but as Mom didn't win tickets to that we won't be going (we only go to things when they're free). ;)

By a pair of ducklings to be exact. They're so fluffly and adorable! My brother came home and found them hiding underneath our big truck. I have no idea what happened to the rest of their family or even how they got to our house (they're lucky one of the cats didn't get them!). They were starving and ate some bread, and my dad and brother managed to catch them in a box. Right now they're in the kiddie pool in the dog pen in the garage. So...anyone know anything about taking care of ducks?
