Okay! Main computer is up and running again! It turns out that the CPU burned out; there's a nice big burn mark in the middle and that's what was making the smell. So phew, I have access to all my stuff again! AND RIGHT NOW I'M GOING TO BACK UP EVERY DAMN THING ON MY HARD DRIVES!!!

OMG, it was actually burning? I didn't know that could happen. Now I have something else to worry about. I'm glad to hear you got to all your stuff! I lost all my files when my old Mac died. I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Yeah, I'm glad it was anything but my hard drives! I have lost hard drives in the past along with all my files, it's horrible. Now I try to keep everything in more than one place in case something fails, but I get behind on backing things up and that's when I can get screwed.

I've had other stuff literally burn out before. Once I had some memory burn out, and I mean burn out so that it was *smoking*! Crazy. No smoke this time but I sure smelled it! Always know something bad's happened when my comp smells like it's on fire... :p

Hope you get your truck fixed up soon! I feel your pain, I had to get the entire transmission in my old car replaced before :(

Waaaaah!! Great that you have everything up and running!
And ya know, if you back everything up, you might as well just burn them off and free up room on your HD. =.P

I do both for the important stuff, burn it AND copy it to another drive. I don't trust technology at all :p
