Today I had my aunt lop off about 15 inches of my hair. Ahh, it feels so much nicer and lighter! I'll be sending the hair in for donation shortly.

My hair grows like wildfire, and this is about the fourth or fifth time I've done this. I grow my hair out, cut it once every few years, donate the hair, and start over again. My last cut was almost exactly three years ago, sometime in the Fall of 2007.

I only ever cut up to about my shoulder blades, though, because short hair and I don't get along. Once in sixth grade I got my hair cut to just above my shoulders, and it was such a disaster I swore I'd never do it again! And I haven't. See, I have thick, wavy hair, and when it was that short, it was no longer heavy enough to be held down, so it just kind of went POOF. I looked like a French poodle, it was horrible. So now when I do have it cut, I make sure to leave enough that it stays weighted. The other reason is I'm lazy and only ever wear my hair up in a bun. Really, I have no idea how or inclination to do anything else with it, and buns are the easiest thing for me.

Eventually I get fed up with how long it's gotten, due to how much time it takes to brush out and wash and comb, etc., and need to cut it off to a manageable level again. Usually when it reaches my butt is when I'm at my limit. Since I always wear my hair in a bun and never go to a salon for anything, occasionally my aunt will trim the ends for me just to get rid of split ends and even it out a bit. Since I was going to be seeing her today for a family gathering, and I'd been meaning to get it cut off for a few weeks now, I thought I'd just have her hack off the donation part for me as well. Yay!

Prevent accidental crossposting of comments from your journal:

http://emmagrant01.livejournal.com/447980.html

Instructions:

1. Go to your "Journal" menu, and select "Journal Style"
2. To the right, you'll see what theme you're using, with a link stating "Customize Your Theme". Click that link.
3. Scroll down a little ways, and you'll see that on the left side of your screen, you have multiple options to modify your theme. Click on the "Custom CSS" link, and it should load the options for doing Custom CSS.
4. From here, all you have to do is go to the "Custom Stylesheet", and put in that line.

.b-repost-item {display:none}

Once you have it pasted in there, save changes.

Ta-da! Crosspost ticky boxes gone!

ETA: This prevents the "repost to FB/Twitter" ticky boxes from being displayed when someone comments on one of your posts. It seems to work, UNLESS the person is viewing your page in their own journal style, in which case it might not work.

ETA2: Inserting the code below in your custom CSS box reportedly works for more kinds of journal styles, including custom ones (this courtesy of [info]xnguard):

.b-repost-item, FORM#qrform > TABLE[style="border: 1px solid black;"]:last-child TD[style="vertical-align: top; text-align: right;"]:first-child { display: none !important; }

...grinding dirt into his white coat. Yay. Is it any wonder I keep him covered most of the time?

ExpandMore fun in the dirt )

I rode Bo a little in the round pen again tonight, still in the western saddle and giving him sugar cubes during and just after mounting and stepping out. No problems there. Prior to that, I took him into the indoor arena to the scary mounting corner and fed him some grain there. While he was eating I stood next to him on the mounting block, leaned over him, and swung my leg over his back a little bit (still stood on the block with the other one). He only vaguely tried to move away from the block at the beginning and only looked a bit concerned when he had run out of food. =p We'll keep working on it...

Just because the majority of people in this country agree with you doesn't mean that you are right, it just means that a lot of people are wrong.

While this is very sad, I am utterly baffled by the sheer STUPIDITY of it all.

A large group of people is gathered for a family barbecue or something along the bank of a river. A bunch of the kids go wading into said river...and NONE of them know how to swim. The kids are walking along and suddenly fall into a deep unseen sinkhole, where six of them then drown, because NO ONE else at the gathering, including all of the adults, knew how to swim!

I find this mind-boggling. From the time I was little, I was taught to be incredibly careful and respectful of any body of water, especially one with a current. Whenever we went out on our boat, we were in life vests if we didn't know how to swim, and often even if we did, just because we were little and probably couldn't keep up treading water for very long. If we went swimming or playing at a pool or beach, we could swim and/or were under the strict supervision of an adult who could. Otherwise, we weren't allowed in or near the water, simple as that. This, to me, is just common sense.

So how in the world does something like this happen, where an entire family of non-swimmers not only chooses a RIVER for their family get-together, but then allows the kids, even if they're teenagers, to play in the water with no means of helping them should an emergency arise? Those poor parents had to just stand their and watch their children drown because they had no way to rescue them! So many of them drowned because they were each trying to save the other, which of course didn't work since none of them could swim. So...why were they allowed in the water in the first place?? I JUST DON'T GET IT.

Just because you're walking along the shore doesn't mean something bad can't happen, like, I don't know, you get hit in the head by a baseball and are knocked out into the water and swept away. Or in this case, you step off a ledge you couldn't see through the murky water and fall into a deep pit. ALWAYS respect water, people! If you're going to be around water, no matter how shallow or safe you think it is, for the love of cheese and crackers, at least learn how to tread water, float, and dog paddle first! Then at least you'll probably be able to stay above water long enough for someone to rescue you.

Tonight I got my best game ever, a 219! My previous high game was a 203. I actually started the game with four strikes in a row, and very nearly got the fifth one as well. I also got a double in the tenth frame. The whole game would have been clean if it weren't for one split in one of the middle frames. Oh well! Also, I have a new mantra for getting strikes, since it seemed to work a lot of the time: "C'mon, Schwartz!" You all know Spaceballs, right? ;)

I saw Inception last night and it was awesome! You know it's a good movie when you're still thinking about it for days afterwards. It's a little bit Matrix-y in premise, what with not knowing whether you're in a dream or the real world, but it is really way more mindblowing and confusing and complicated than the Matrix movies ever were. There are a lot of things I'm still trying to figure out about it, and I think it's one of those movies you have to see a few dozen times before you actually catch everything that's going on or that happened. Also the cast was really great. Two thumbs up!

Okay, pondering over. For now. See the movie!
