Dec. 20th, 2005 04:04 pmSo I picked up Bootsie successfully today. Apparently she'd been seen wandering around the neighborhood for the last couple of days, and someone finally called her in to get picked up. She actually didn't get all that far away, about four streets over, but we never saw her. Turned out to cost quite a bit to get her back, because her license renewal was $87 and the bill for the emergency care they gave her was $145. Also have to get a fax from the vet telling them that she can't get her rabies booster because last time she had a bad reaction and it could kill her. That has to be done within the next ten days or it'll be a $100 citation. =p Expensive little runaway! Well she's home now and acting completely normal, although perhaps a bit starved for attention.
And OUCH!! When I got home I was listening to the messages on the answering machine, and Jerry decided that'd be a great time to leap from the kitchen table onto my shoulders. While he does this frequently, this time I really wasn't expecting it and turned around partway as he was landing. Did I mention Jerry weighs 20 pounds? Of course he couldn't land well while I was moving, so much screaming and clawing and falling ensued. I now have three huge clawmarks down my back and one on my neck! Cats...
And it's WARM outside! The one good thing about rain, it brings warmer weather in the winter. And it's not even raining today, it's just warm. =)

Dec. 19th, 2005 02:15 pmBootsie was found! I don't have any details on what happened to her yet, but she's down at the animal shelter. They're closed on Mondays, so I'll have to wait until tomorrow to pick her up. Thank you everyone for your well wishes; as long as she can stand spending the night in the shelter, she should be fine. I guess someone found her and brought her in, and since she wears her license and rabies tags, they were able to contact us here. Apparently she was just found today, so I wonder where she's been for the past day and a half...

Yesterday there was a horrible rainstorm, so work was super cold and wet and windy. I spent only a few minutes out in the rain letting the horses in and watering them, and the rest of the time trying to keep warm and dry in the office. I had to call almost everyone to tell them not to come to work today, and then I got to go home early.
After work I went with Josh to Cindra's surprise birthday dinner (pretty surprising since it was a month early!) at a Chinese seafood place. Attendees were me, Josh (
thomasj), Fox, Cindra (
cinderfox), Steven, Shellie, Laura (
angelkatharine), Mark, Jani (
hurtta), Jennie (
sipdeek), Annamarie (
wonderwomandc), Erin (
mommyofbuddy), and Sheng. The food was yummy, but there sure was a lot of very loud drunken karaoke singing going on out in the main dining area (we had a private room, but it was so loud we could still hear all of it). After dinner Cindra got the most chocolately chocolate cake ever and opened a bunch of presents. Then most of us went over to Jennie's house for an evening of playing with Itty Bitty the kitty and a game of Cranium Turbo, which was much fun. ^_^

Our dog Bootsie is missing. Last night my mom let her outside to go to the bathroom, and she never came back. Normally she comes right back to the back step once she's done and scratches the door to be let inside. But she seems to have simply vanished...she's nowhere in the backyard and hasn't turned up anywhere in the neighborhood. Bootsie is a 20.5 year old Chihuahua/Dachshund mix, so I'm wondering if she didn't just go off by herself to die somewhere; given her age that wouldn't surprise me. The other possibility would be she somehow got out of the backyard and got herself trapped someplace while taking shelter from the rain. All the other times she's gotten out (it happens frequently, she's so small she can easily fit through holes in the fence even though I try to keep them blocked) she's run around the court for a bit then come back to the front door. It's very, very odd for her to not come back at all; in fact it's never happened before. I'm a bit worried now.
